Project Background

In January 2008, a team of landscape architecture students from UWA were engaged by the Dunsborough Yallingup Chamber of Commerce to investigate potential development of the Dunsborough Foreshore & Seymour Park precinct. In March, this team met with interested community members at the foreshore in order to begin a dialogue of ideas and observations towards the foreshore's potential development. The students also undertook an extensive physical survey of the foreshore, the Dunsborough town site and the foreshore's catchment area. As a group, the students felt it was essential to expand their original scope beyond the foreshore as any development of its catchment area affects the foreshore.

In April 2008, the students presented their preliminary findings and design ideas to the community for comment and review. In July 2008, ten final student designs, based on community input, were presented to the Dunsborough community for final comment. These comments, both critical and supportive, were compiled. Based on these findings, one overall concept was further commissioned by the Dunsborough-Yallingup Chamber of Commerce, South West Development Commission and the Shire of Busselton. This Foreshore and Seymour Park Concept Design has been done by Tinka Sack and Emma West from the University of Western Australia, Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Visual Arts. Architects Jenny Officer and Trent Woods donated their time in providing a conceptual design that allowed us to test the economic viability of a small, low-key cafe to be located on the foreshore. Today's presentation is an overall design concept for consideration by the Community of Dunsborough and the Shire of Busselton. We seek your comments.
